FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE WIRD, WAZIFAH & DHIKR UL-JUMUAH

1. Can the Wird, Wazifah and Dhikr ul-Jumuah be done while travelling in a vehicle?

Yes they can, however, the Jawharat ul-Kamal needs to be replaced by 20 Salat ul-Fatih because it cannot be recited while moving. Also, the Wazifah cannot be done in Jama’ah while in a vehicle, but the Dhikr ul-Jumuah can be.

2. If the Wird, Wazifah & Dhikr ul-Jumuah are missed, does the murid have to make it up?

Yes, the Wird & Wazifah have to be made up if missed, however, the Dhikr ul-Jumuah cannot be made up. If the murid arrives late to the Wazifah in Jama’ah, they have to make up whatever they missed, after the Wazifah is completed.

In the case of Dhikr ul-Jumuah, just 1 Laa ilaha illa Allah in Jama’ah is sufficient to fulfill the requirement of attending Jama’ah. However, if Dhikr ul-Jumuah is done alone, 1600 Laa ilaha illa Allah must be recited.

3. Are women required to perform the Wird, Wazifah & Dhikr ul-Jumuah while on their menstrual cycles?

No, they are not obligated to perform the litanies during their menstruation period. But they may continue to join & recite with if they wish to. They cannot recite the Jawharat ul-Kamal however.

4. Can the Wird of Asr be recited before the Asr prayer is performed, if Asr time has started?

No. Once the time of Asr enters, the Asr prayer must be performed first before the Wird is recited.

However, the Fajr Wird can be recited before Fajr time enters due to the blessing in Ibadah done during Tahajjud time. But if Fajr time starts, then the Fajr prayer has to be performed before the Fajr Wird can be recited.

5. Can one recite the Wazifah & Dhikr ul-Jumuah following an online livestream?

Yes, but the Dhikr does NOT count as Jama’ah while following an online stream. Jama’ah requires physical attendance.

Does a group of females count as a Jama’ah while doing Wazifah/Dhikr ul-Jumuah?

Females are not required to perform the Wazifah & Dhikr ul-Jumuah in Jama’ah. In the absence of a male, a group of females do not count as a Jama’ah. Therefore, their Wazifah/Dhikr ul-Jumuah has to be recited individually.

6. Are you allowed to interact with people while reciting the Wird or Wazifah?

Talking is not allowed while reciting the Wird. However, a male murid is permitted to respond to the call of his Shaykh or his parents only. Female murids may also respond to the call of the Shaykh, parents or husband.

The Wird has to be restarted if this rule is violated.

During the Wazifah, talking is not allowed at all, and invalidates the Dhikr.

However, if required, certain urgent actions can be done, for example, helping an old person with a chair, settling a crying baby…etc. This should be kept to a minimal.

7. Can you continue the Wird or Wazifah after leaving it to refresh your Wudu?

If your Wudu breaks during the Wazifah or Wird, then you have to restart after renewing the Wudu. You cannot continue where you left off.

HASBĪ BIHI WA BI-TĀHA * HASBĪ BI-SHAYKHĪ T-TIJĀNĪ

SUFFICIENT FOR ME IS HIM & TAHA….AND MY SHAYKH AL-TIJANI!

A Poem by Shaykh-al-Islam Ibrahim Niasse (RA)

- حَسْبِـــي بِبَــــــــــرٍّ رَءُوفٍ -

Hasbī bi-Barrin Ra'ūfin

Sufficient for me is my Gracious and Compassionate Lord!

حَسْبِـــــي بِهِ وَ كَفَانِــــــي

Hasbī bihi wa kafānī

Sufficient is He for me and enough is He for all my needs!

حَسْبِــــــي بِـــــهِ وَ بِطَــــٰهَ

CHORUS Hasbī bihi wa bi-Tāha CHORUS

Sufficient is He for me and (His Prophet) Taha (SAW)

حَسْبِــــي بِشَيْخِــي التِّجَانِــي

CHORUS Hasbī bi-Shaykhī t-Tijānī CHORUS

Sufficient for me is my Shaykh (Ahmad) al-Tijani

- قَلْبِــــــي لَـــهُ وَ مَرَامِـــي -

Qalbī lahu wa marāmī

My heart is for Him and my desire (is for Him only)!

وَ قَالَبِــــــي كُـــــلَّ آنِ

wa qālabī kulla āni

And my body too, always!

رَبِّ فَــــــدَارِكْ عُبَيْــــداً

Rabbi fadārik 'ubaydān

O my Lord! Help your slave!

سُرْعَــــــةً دُونَ تَــــــوَانِ

sur'atan dūna tawāni

Soon without delay!

- لاَ تَشْمِتَــــنَّ الْأَعَـــــادِي -

Lā tashmitanna-l a'ādī

Do not let my enemies rejoice!

وَ لاَ تُوَسْـــوِسْ جَنَانِـــــي

wa lā tuwaswis janāni

And protect my heart from the whispering (of the Devil)

فَاجْعَلْ فُـــؤَادِي كَصَخْــــــرٍ

fāj'al fu'ādī ka-sakhrin

And make my heart as strong as a stone!

وَ لاَ تــُــصِـــرْهُ كَبَـــــــــانِ

wa lā tusir'hu kabāni

And do not make it (weak) as a tree (that can be easily cut)!

- وَﻟْﺘَﺸْﻒِ لِــي كُـلَّ ﺷَﻜْـــﻮَﻯ -

Waltashfi lī kulla shakwā

So relieve me of every grievance

وَﻟْــتَقْضِ ﻫَـٰﺬِي ﺍلْأَﻣَﺎنِـــــي

waltaqdi hādhī-l amānī

And fulfil all my aspirations!

بِجَـــــاهِ ﺧَﻴْـــﺮِ ﺍﻟْﺒَﺮَﺍﻳَـــــــﺎ

Bi-jāhi khayri-l barāyā

By the honour of the Best of Creation (SAW)

وَ ﺟَــﺎﻩِ الشَّيْخِ ﺍﻟــتِــّـﺠَﺎنِـــي

wa jāhi-sh Shaykhi-t Tijāni

And the honour of the Shaykh al-Tijani!

- وَ جَاهِ شَيْخِــي وَ أَصْلِـــــــي-

Wa jāhi Shaykhī wa aslī

And by the honour of my Shaykh and my Origin

وَالِدِي عَالِــــي الْمَكَــــانِ

wālidī 'ālī-l makāni

My honourable Father!

الْحَــــاجِ عَبْـــــدِ إِلَـٰـــــــهِ

Al-Hāji 'Abdi Ilāhi

Al-Hajj Abdullahi (the slave of his Lord)

بَهْجَتِــــي طُـــولَ الْأَوَانِ

bahjatī tūla-l awāni

My pride throughout the ages!

- مَطْلَبِــــي رُقْيَـــــا مَقَــــامٍ -

Matlabī ruqyā maqāmin

My goal is to rise in (spiritual) rank

سُـــرْعَةً فِـــي ذَا الزَّمَـــانِ

sur'atan fi dhā-z zamāni

Speedily in this age (of corruption)

مَطْلَبِــــي إِرْثُ أُصُـــولِــــي

matlabī irtha usūlī

My goal is to inherit (the stations of) my (spiritual) ancestors

سُــرْعَـــــةً دُونَ تَــــــوَانِ

sur'atan dūna tawāni

Quickly without delay!

- فَلَسْــتُ أَرْضَـــىٰ سِـــوَى -

falastu ardā siwā

For I am not pleased with anything less than…

إِرْقَاءٍ لِأَعْلَــــىٰ الْمَعَـــانِي

irqā'in li-a'lā-l ma'āni

being raised to the highest of understandings!

أَتْحِــــــفِ الْعَــــبْـدَ مُنَـــــــاهُ

At'hifi-l 'abda munā'hu

So grant this slave his wish!

إِتْحَافُكُـــمْ قَـــــدْ كَفَانِـــي

it'hāfukum qad kafānī

Your bounties are sufficient for me!

- أَزْكَــــى سَلاَمَـــيْ سَــــلاَمٍ -

azkā salāmay salāmi

May the choicest of Salutations be...

عَلَـــىٰ زَعِيــــمِ الْجِنَـــــانِ

'alā za'eemi-l jināni

upon the Chief of Paradise!

مِنْ بَعْــــدِ كُــــلِّ صَحَــــابٍ

min ba'di kulli sihābin

And upon all his Companions

بَعْـــــدَ آلٍ كُــــلَّ آنِ

ba'da ālin kulla āni

And his Family! Always!
