TO ALLAH I FORWARD MY GRIEVANCES

إِلَى اللَّهِ أَشْكُوا مَا أُلَاقِى مِنَ الشَّكْوَىٰ

A Supplication by Shaykh-al-Islam Ibrahim Niasse (RA)

(From: al-Kanz al-Masun)

إِلَى اللَّهِ أَشْكُوا مَا أُلَاقِى مِنَ الشَّكْوَىٰ • فَلَا وَزَرًا أَرْجُو سِوَاهُ وَلَا مَأْوَىٰ

Ilā-Llahi ashkū mā ulāqī mina-sh shakwā * falā wazarān arjū siwāhu walā ma’wā

 

To Allah I forward all my grievances!

And I turn to no helper or refuge but Him!

هُمُومِى إِلَى مَوْلَاىَ أَرْجُوا انْفِرَاجَهَا • فَفَقْرِى إِلَى مَوْلَاىَ فِى الْجَهْرِ وَالنَّجْوَىٰ

 

Ḥumūmī ilā mawlāya arjū-nfirājahā * fa-faqrī ilā mawlāya fī-l jahri wa-n najwā

 

I hope from my Lord that all my worries willl be relieved!

And I am needy of my Lord, publicly and privately!

مَقَالِى وَحَالِى يَجْئَرَانِ لِفَاقَتِى • وَيَقْوَىٰ رَجَائِى حِينَ عَنْ غَيْرِهِ يُطْوَىٰ

 

Maqālī wa ḥālī yaj’arāni li-fāqatī * wa yaqwā rajā’ī ḥīna ‘an ghayrihi yuṭwā

Both my words & my condition loudly testify to my need & poverty

And my hope for relief is reinforced when it turns away from anyone other than Him!

سَأَلْتُكَ يَا كَافِى الْعَبِيدِ بِأَسْرِهَا • بِأَنْ تُحْسِنَ الْعُقْبَىٰ وَأَنْ تَرْفَعَ الْبَلْوَىٰ

 

Sa’altuka yā Kāfī-l ‘abīdi bi-asrihā * bi-an tuḥsina-l ‘uqbā wa ‘an tarfa‘a-l balwā

 

I beseech you! O who is sufficient for all His servant’s needs!

To grant us a good ending and remove all (our) tests & tribulations!

قَدِيرُ قَدِيرُ يَا إِلَٰـهِى وَإنَّنِى •فَقِيرٌ ضَعِيفٌ أَشْكُ شَكْوَىٰ أَخِى شَكْوَىٰ

 

Qadīru Qadīru yā Ilāhī wa innanī * faqīrun ḍa’īfun ashku shakwā akhī shakwā

 

O All-Powerful One! O All-Powerful One! O my Lord! I am but…

a weak beggar…who forwards to You grievance after grievance!

كَفَانِى كَفَانِى إِنْ مَدَدْتُ يُدَيَّتِى • إِلَى الْحَضْرَةِ الْعُلْيَا وَأَنْحُوا لَهَا نَحْوَا

 

Kafānī Kafānī in madadtu yudayyatī * ilā-l ḥadrati-l ‘ulyā wa an’hū lahā naḥwā

 

But it is enough for me! It is enough me! That I have raised my hands….

towards the Divine Court (of my Lord) and have turned towards it!

عَلَى الْمُصْطَفَىٰ الْمَنْصُورِ أَزْكَىٰ صَلَاتِهِ • مَعَ الْآلِ وَالْأَصْحَابِ مَا أَكْثَرَ الْجَدْوَىٰ

Alā-l Muṣtafā-l Manṣūri azkā ṣalātihi * ma’a-l āli wa-l aṣ’hābi mā akthara-l jadwā

 

May the choicest of His blessings be upon the Chosen & Victorious (Prophet)

And his Family & Companions…as long as His blessings continue!

NOTE:

 

Shaykh-al-Islam Ibrahim Niasse (RA) composed this powerful Du’a to Allah as a poem and stated that it contains the Letters of  al-Ism al-A’zam i.e. the Greatest Name of Allah, through which every prayer is answered. These Sacred Letters have been placed at strategic points in the poem. Our teacher Shaykh Baye Haiba of Mauritania regularly recites this prayer-poem after every obligatory Salah.
