RANKS OF THE AWLIYA

The great Tijani saint (who spread the Tariqah in Sudan), Sidi Muhammad al-Mukhtar al-Shinqiti (RA) stated that there are 3 levels of Awliya:

 

- A Wali whose saintly rank is known by Allah, known by himself and known by the people. 

 

- A Wali whose saintly rank is known by Allah and himself, but not by the people.

 

- A Wali whose saintly status is known to Allah only and neither himself nor the people know about it. And he is the highest of all 3 in status.

 

And there can be a Wali who combines all 3 levels, and that is our master Sidna Shaykh Ahmad al-Tijani (RA).

 

For he had a rank that was known to Allah, to himself and to the people.

 

And he had a rank that was known to Allah and him only, and the people don't know it.

 

And he has a rank that is known to Allah only, and he himself doesn't know it, nor anyone else. And this is referred to in his statement "None knew me but my Rabb".
