A poem
in praise of Shaykh-al-Islam Ibrahim
Niasse (RA)
- By his beloved muqaddam al-Hajj Ma’abdu Niang (RA) -
أَلْفُ الصَّلَاةِ مَعَ
السَّلَامِ ** عَلَى الْحَبِيبِ سَيِّدِ الْكِيَانِ
Thousand blessings
& salutations…upon the Beloved, the Master of Creation (SAW)!
حَمْدًا لِرَبِّي عَلَى
لِقَائِي ** أَوْفَرَ حَظٍّ مِنْ ذِي الْأَوَانِ
Thanks to my Lord for
making me receive…a most generous portion from the Man of the Age!
بَدْرُ الْبُدُورِ
بَحْرُ الْبُحُورِ ** فَيْضُ الْفُيُوضِ وَالْخَتْمُ الثَّانِي
Most Luminous of
Moons! Vastest of Oceans!…The Supreme Flood! The Second Seal (of Sainthood)!
شَمْسُ الشُّمُوسِ رَأْسُ
الرُّؤُوسِ ** تَاجُ الْعَرُوسِ سَبْعُ الْمَثَانِي
The Suns of Suns! Leader
of Leaders…The Crown of a Groom! Manifestation of the 7 verses (Fatihah )
أُفْرِدْتَ فَرْدًا
دُعِيتَ عَبْدًا ** رَقْمًا وَ لَفْظًا تَاجُ التِّجَانِي
You were chosen
singly! You were named the Servant!…In writing & word! O Crown of Tijani!
عَبْدُ الْإِلَـٰهِ
خَلِيلُ اللَّهِ ** حَبِيْبُ اللهِ مَكْتُومُ الثَّانِي
The Servant of the
Lord! Friend of Allah!… Beloved of Allah! O Second Maktum (Concealed One)!
غَوْثُ الْعِبَادِ
نَفْعُ الْبِلَادِ ** يَاقُوتُ حَقٍّ رُوحُ الْمَعَانِي
The Helper of
Creation! The Benefit for the Lands!…The Ruby of Truth! The Spirit of Meanings!
رَدُّ الْأِعْجَازَ
إِلـٰى الصُّدُورِ ** آيَاتُ حَقٍّ مَعْنَى الْمَعَانِي
Returner of Wonders to
the Chests (of Men)!…The Signs of Truth! The Meaning behind all meanings!
قَرْمُ الْقُرُومِ
فَهْمُ الْفُهُومِ ** خَتْمُ الْقُرْآنِ نَافِي السِّنَانِ
Master of masters!
Possessor of the Deepest Understanding!…Reciter of Qur’an! Remover of Slumber!
بَرْهَامُ حَظٍّي
بَرْهَامُ سَهْمِي ** فَهُوَ حَسْبِي وَ قَدْ كَفَانِي
Barham is my fortune!
Barham is my share!…He is enough for me & he is sufficient for me!
مُجْلِي الْفُحُولِ
مُعْطِي الْوُصُولِ ** مُبْدِي الشُّئُونِ خَتْمُ الْقُرْآنِ
Surpasser of masters!
Granter of Arrival (to God)!…Revealer of Divine Secrets! Reciter of the Qur’an!
رَمْزُ الْوُجُودِ
سَعْدُ السُّعُودِ ** وَافِي الْعُهُودِ رَبِيعُ الثَّانِي
Symbol of all
Existence! Greatest of Glad-tidings…Keeper of promises! The Second Rabi (Spring)!
أَدَّيْتُ فَرْضِي
شَكَرْتُ حَظِّي ** لَبَّيْتُ الدَّاعِي كَمَا دَعَانِي
I fulfilled my duty!
Grateful for my fortune!…I answered the Caller when he called me!
أَنْتَ الْمُرَبِّي
لِمَنْ يُلَبِّي ** نِدَاءَ صِدْقٍ بِلَا َضَمَانِ
You are the Guide for
those who answer…the call of sincerity, unconditionally!
أَنْتَ الْمُنَادِي
أَنَا الْمُلَبِّي ** لَبَّيْتُ جَهْرًا دُونَ امْتِحَانِ
You are the Caller! I
am the responder!…I respond publicly & un-hesitantly!
بَلْ أَنْتَ النَّادِي
ثُمَّ الْمُلَبِّي ** لِذَا أُجِبْتَ بِلَا تَوَانِ
In fact, you’re the
caller AND the responder!…That’s why the response was without delay!
هَذَا المُرِيدُ
يُرِيدُ رَيًّا ** يَوْمًا وَ لَيْلًا رَبَّ الْجِنَانِ
Here’s a Seeker seeking
to quench his thirst…Day & Night O Owner of the Garden!
وَ ذَا مُحِبٌّ يُحِبُّ
دَهْشًا ** وَقْتًا وَ سَاعًا فِي الْمَلَوَانِ
Here’s a lover who
seeks to be dazzled (by the Light of Allah)…Here and now! Day & Night!
وَ ذَا مُحِبٌّ يُحِبُّ
صِدْقًا ** فَأنْتَ صِدْقٌ بِلاَ امْتِنَانِ
Here’s a lover who loves
the Truth!…Indeed, you represent the Truth! Without any boast!
أَنَخْتُ رَحْلِي جَنَابَ
شَيْخِي ** رَجَوْتُ مِنْهُ دُرَّ الْمَعَانِي
I tied up my camel in
the courtyard of my Shaykh…Seeking from him the pearls of meanings!
تَمَّتْ مَقَالِي بِلَا
كَمَالِ ** سَمَيْتُ مِنْهُ نَيْلَ
الْأَمَانِي
My poem is concluded,
with all its imperfections…I seek through it the attainment of my hopes!
NOTE: Al-Hajj Ma’abdu Niang was from the earliest murids & muqaddams
of Shaykh Ibrahim Niasse (RA),
who called him “The Abu-Bakr & Umar of the Faydah” and “My second
being”. He was also Baye’s father-in-law.
