POEM BY SHAYKH AHMAD SUKAYRIJ (RA) OF MOROCCO

[In Praise of His Student, Shaykh-al-Islam  Ibrahim Niasse (RA)]

شَهِدْتُ لَكُمْ فَــتْحًا مُـبِينًا بِمَا لَكُـمْ

مِن الْحَــقِّ مِنْ بَيْــنِ الْبَرِيـَّـةِ قَدْ خَصَّا

I testify that you have gained a manifest opening…

Specially granted to you by God from amongst all people!

وَرِثْتَ عَنِ الشَيْخِ التِّجَانِي خِلَافَةً

وَ إِنِّي لَكُمْ فِيــهَا أَنُصُّ لَكُمْ نَصَّا

Indeed you’ve inherited the Khilâfah from Shaykh (Ahmad) al-Tijânî! 

And I state to you my clear testimony to that!

وَ إِنِّي أَرَى الشَّيْخَ التِّجَانِـي خَاتِمًا

وَ أَنْتَ الَّذِي قَدْ صِرْتَ فِي الْخَاتِمِ الْفَصَّا

And I see the Shaykh (Ahmad) al-Tijânî as a Ring…

And you’re the one who has become the Bezel in the Ring!

وَ مَا قُلْتُ هَـذَا عَنْ هَوَى وَ تَبَجُّحٍ

وَ لاَ كَانَ عَنْ شَطْحٍ رَقَصْتُ بِهِ رَقْصَا

And I do not state this out of my own desire or vanity…

Nor due to an ecstatic condition making me dance!

وَ لَكِنَّهُ عَنْ وَارِدٍ جَاءَ نَاشِرًا

لِوَاءَ سُرُورٍ مِنْهُ حَاسِدُكُمْ غَصَّا

Rather, it is due to a Divine Inspiration that came upon me…                                                           

And spread the Banner of Good Fortune that casts down those jealous of you!

وَ كَمْ طَائِرٍ فَخْراً يُعَدُّ مُزَاحِمًا

لَكُمْ فِي الْمَعَالِي وَ الْجَناَحُ لَهُ قُصَّا

And how many a Bird arrogantly tries to compete with you…                                                                

in the heights of rank & status…only to get their wings cut!
