EARLIEST REFUTATION OF THE WAHHABI SECT

As-Salam Alaykum,

By the 17th century, Muslims were at peace under the Ottoman Khilafah following the 4 Sunni Madh-habs....

Until....one man appeared in the scorching deserts of central Arabia (Najd).

That man was "shaykh" Muhammad bin Abd-al-Wahhab al-Tamimi (1703-1792).

This man, influenced by the fanatical puritanical ideas of Ibn-Taymiyyah and by the inherent harshness of the desert...started a new Sect.

This Sect was called by him and his followers as: "al-Muslimun", then "Ahl al-Tawhid", "al-Wahhabiyyah", "Ahl al-Hadith "and then finally "al-Salafiyyah".

Muhammad bin Abd-al-Wahhab believed that ALL THE MUSLIMS of his time were actually kafirs and mushriks. In other words, they were all apostates (Murtadds)....including all the Ulama of Makkah and Medina, and even the Islamic Khalifah in Turkey.

He reckoned, by visiting the Tombs of the Prophet (SAW) and the Awliya and seking their Barakah...muslims had reverted to SHIRK and IDOL-WORSHIP.

He also reckoned that by following the 4 Imams, muslims had abandoned the SUNNAH.

Anyways, he considered everyone but his followers to be Kafir, and therefore declared WAR against the Muslim Khilafah State, forcing everyone to become a Wahhabi-Salafi or be killed.

As soon his evil Fitna started to spread, the Ulama of the Muslims World started to write Fatwas and books refuting his dark takfiri ideology.

We present to you here the earliest refutation of Muhammad bin Abd-al-Wahhab, written while he was still alive. It was authored by a great Alim of the Azhar from Egypt and has words of support from the Muftis of the 4 Madh-habs from MAKKAH AND MEDINA.

Check it out (attached).

SMOKING IS HARAM IN TARIQAH TIJANIYYAH

Smoking is Haram in the Tariqah Tijaniyyah

As-Salam Alaykum,

Recently, I noticed some Tijani brothers smoking cigarettes. Saddened by this, I share some warnings on this matter from our Masters, hoping that it will benefit all of us. Please read on:

Sahib al-Faydah Shaykh-al-Islam Ibrahim Niasse (RA) states in a famous lecture of his:

"The Scholars have differed about the ruling regarding Smoking, between Permissibility, Dislikedness, and Prohibition. But the strongest reliable opinion is that it is Prohibited.
The opinion of the Shaykh (Ahmad) al-Tijani (RA) is that it is definitelyHaram.
The Prophet (SAW) said that, 'Every intoxicating substance is Haram'. And there is no doubt that it (i.e. the cigarette) is an intoxicant.
The difference of the Ulama (regarding this issue) is due to their Ijitihad (personal research and understanding). But the Shaykh al-Tijani(RA) used to take the (Shari'ah) rules directly from the Prophet (SAW), without any intermediary, and he (i.e. Shaykh Ahmad Tijani) is the most learned of the Mujtahid (complete) scholars.
If a non-Tijani smokes, we do not say anything to him.
But if a Tijani smokes, then he has left the fold of the Tijaniyyah.

Indeed, the Shaykh (Sidi Ahmad Tijani) wrote in one of his Ijazahsthat, 'The Wird should not be given to a cigarette smoker until he leaves smoking'.
Someone asked him (i.e. Shaykh Ibrahim), 'How is it that the Wirdcan be given to a drinker but not a smoker?'
 He replied:
'Because it is hoped that the wine-drinker will repent. But there is no such hope of repentance for the smoker. This is because the wine-drinker believes that drinking is Haram, but the smoker does not believe the same about smoking.
Therefore, the one who considers (a sinful matter) as Haram and the one who doesn't, are not the same.

The Tijani (disciple) should avoid cigarettes, smoking and inhaling, otherwise he is not a Tijani."

(Translated by me from a 1952-53 lecture of Shaykh-al-Islam (RA) in Nigeria, as compiled in the book Thalathu Majalis Saniyyah by Shaykh Muhammad Ghibrima)

I quote here some relevant passages from another benefecial post:

"The great sufi masters of the Tariqa Muhammadiyya all spoke out against smoking and criticized it strongly. Here are some explanations on why they considered it to be haram.

Shaykh Ahmad Tijani (d.1815), founder of the Tijaniyya. He declared Tobacco to be forbidden based on the Prophetic tradition that "All that causes a state of weakness is prohibited", and tobacco causes a state of weakness because of the smoker's addiction and dependency.

Shaykh Ahmad Tijani also demanded that smokers repent or they will not die a good death, and when one of his followers was dying, he started uttering vulgar words and was not able to say theShahadah, despite having been a pious man of much worship.

When (Shaykh) al-Tijani found out that he smoked, he said that this was why he could not utter the Shahadah on his deathbed and that he must repent immediately.

There is also a Prophetic hadith about Allah's hatred for money squandering.

And the greatest waste of money is in Tobacco

And think about this: If tobacco makes the land on which it is planted impure, then what of the body that inhales it?" (End of quote).

I add to this that one of primary reasons why a Tijani is strictly prohibited from Smoking is that there are numerous Angels who are appointed to surround a Tijani disciple all the time. This is well-known and visible to anyone who sees the Unseen Spiritual World. Now,smoking cause great disgust to these Angels and even results in their going away.

Furthermore, many Tijanis have the Prophet (SAW) present with them in their homes and at many other times. The Awliya of this Tariqah (and other Tariqahs sometimes) are also present with them to guide or protect them (e.g. al-Hajj Umar Tal is known for protecting Tijanis against harm and some other non-Tijani Awliya are known for voluntarily guarding Tijani Zawiyahs).

Once again, cigarette smoke causes disgust and discomfort to these Pure Holy Presences, and even makes them depart.

Therefore, Tijanis should always try to smell nice. They should know that they are never alone and that there are many Holy Spirits with them, whether one sees them or not. The disciple should honor this spirituality that surrounds him.
O Tijani disciple! Don't boast nor be arrogant, but do know your own value. Don't ever undermine a Tijani murid, including yourself!

In fact, not only is it Haram for a Tijani to smoke cigarettes or inhale it, it is also Haram for a Tijani to sell it.

A Muqaddam who is a close friend of mine told me that he enquired from our venerated Imam Sayyidina Shaykh Hassan Cisse (RA) if cigarettes can be sold in the shop that is adjacent to our blessedZawiyah?

Sayyidina al-Imam Hassan Cisse (RA) replied:

"No! My grandfather Shaykh Ibrahim (RA) considered smoking asHaram, and one cannot sell Haram objects."

Al-Humduli'Llah, I hope this much will suffice for us. Those of us who are addicted to this harmful habit must strive hard to get rid of it, and it is not difficult for ALLAH to make the difficult matter easy, through thebarakah of our Shaykhs (RA).

ANSWERING A SALAFI MISINTERPRETATION OF A HADITH

QUESTION

Assalamualaykum Sidi,

I hope you and family are well.

There is a hadith:

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Allah has angels traveling about the earth to convey to me the salaams of my ummah.” [An-Nasaai]

Can you please explain this hadith to me in relation to a Non-Tijani scholar's statement that:

"....this hadith informs us that the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) himself does not travel the earth to attend the gatherings where he is mentioned. Such un-Islamic beliefs have unfortunately found their way into the Bidat (innovations) that have been introduced into the religion.....".....

This is probably one of the salafi scholars....Allahu A'lam!
JazakAllah Khayran and may Allah continue to bless this ummah and all our Tijani brothers and sisters all over the world...ameen!

ANSWER

Wa Alaykum As-Salam Sidi,

This authentic Hadith is not for the Wahhabis but actually against them. Some of the things we learn from thisHadith are:

1-The Angels attend gatherings of Salawat! This is a bisharah (glad-tidings) for us because we Tijanis are regularly holding gatherings of Salawat and Salam while the wahabis/salafis do not have such gatherings at all. So our names are presented to him (SAW) daily, carried by the Angels!

2-The Prophet (SAW) is ALIVE and AWARE of the actions of his Ummah. Otherwise, whats the purpose of Angel's presenting Salawat and Salams of the Ummah to a "dead man who doesn't even know us" as the wahhabis ignorantly claim??!

3-The Prophet (SAW) possesses the most powerful SOUL/SPIRIT/RUH in the whole world. Otherwise, how does he (SAW) have the power to RECIEVE and HEAR the endless Salawat and Salams of his Ummah that goes on 24 hours???!!! This in addition to many other matters his noble Ruh is busy with!!!

4-That the Angels are his servants. So he obviously has more authority and power in the spiritual world than them.

I ask: If his servants, the Angels, can travel freely around the Universe, how can the Spirit of the Master (SAW) not have the power to do that???

I already highlighted the power of the Soul of the Prophet (SAW) above!!!

The great 9th century Egyptian scholar Imam al-Suyuti mentions in his book on the "Affairs of the Dead" (Shar'h al-Sudur) that the souls of all Pious People are free to move around in this world. He qoutes this from theSahabah, so how can it be a bid'ah? He also mentions that the Soul can travel through the Heavens and Earth in a second!

The salafi ideologue Ibn al-Qayyim also seems to agree with this in his book "Kitab al-Ruh".

In fact, Imam al-Suyuti, the mujaddid of the 9th Century, states unequivocally in his work Tanwir al-Halak bi-Imkan Ru'yat al-Nabi wa 'l-Malak:

So it is learnt from all these narrations and Ahadith that the Prophet (SAW) is alive, with body and soul, and that he (SAW) acts with authority and travels wherever he wishes to in Earth and Heavens, and he (SAW) is in the manner he was before he died, nothing has changed of him. He has just been hidden from the (physical) eyes just as Angels are hidden, though they are physically in existence. So if Allah wishes to honor someone by seeing him (SAW), He just removes the veil betwen them and him and that person sees him (SAW) the way he (SAW) is. There is nothing that makes this inconcievable, and there is no need to claim that the seer sees his (SAW) image only.
And some of them (i.e. the scholars/saints) was asked: 'How can multiple people see him (SAW) in far-off lands (i.e. at the same time)?'
So he replied in poetry:
'Like the Sun, situated in the centre of the Sky'
but its light covers the lands, east and west!'

Read this statement again carefully. It is the words of the author of Tafsir al-Jalalayn and other great books that are even taught in the Islamic (read Wahhabi) University of Medina!

The work I referred to now can be read online here:

http://quran.maktoob.com/vb/quran64216/

5- Note that on the night of the M'iraj, the Souls of all Prophets were present in the Masjid al-Aqsa site in Jerusalem (Palestine). They all prayed there behind our Prophet (SAW) and socialized with him (SAW). This despite the fact that about all of them had already died centuries ago and were buried all over the world. The Prophet (SAW) then met them again in the Heavens as is known!

These two facts prove that the Souls of Prophets can travel ANYWHERE in Earth or in Heaven! So how can we deny that power for their Imam Sayyidna Muhammad (SAW)?!!!

6-Note that the hadith you quoted simply states a "procedure and duty" of the Angels. It does not deny the power of the Soul of the Prophet (SAW) to travel anywhere.

For example, there are many ahadith that state that there are Angels who present our Deeds to Almighty Allah (SWT) daily as well!!!

Does that mean that Allah (SWT) does not have the power to witness our deeds?

What about the Day of Qiyamah when Angels will present all our deeds  to Allah (SWT) and He will question people about them?. Is it because He (SWT) doesnt know???

Of course not! It is simply a procedural matter!

The best example of that would be of a president who has a driver driving him. It does not mean that he himself canot drive. It is simply a matter of honor that a driver drives him or a butler serves him.

So the Blessed Spirit of the Nabi (SAW) can indeed attend any gathering it wishes to in Heavens and Earth, and is aware of all Salawat recited. The presenting by the Angels is simply a matter of procedure and respect.

It is ironic that the deniers believe that the Devil can travel all over the arth and attend all gatherings he wishes to, but not the blessed Prophet (SAW)!

We ask: Who is more stronger in the Unseen World, the Spirit of Allah's Beloved (SAW), or the spirit of His enemy (LA)??!!!

Madad Ya Sayyidi Ya Rasul-Allah!

Note also, that not only Salawat and Salam, but all actions of this Ummah  ae presented to the Nabi (SAW) as narrated in the authentic hadith:

حياتي خير لكم، تحدثون ويحدث لكم،و وفاتي خيرا لكم، تعرض علي أعمالكم، فإن رأيت خيرا حمدت الله، وإن رأيت شرا استغفرت لكم

"My life is a great good for you: you will relate about me and it will be related to you,  and my death is a great good for you, as your actions will be exhibited to me, and if I see goodness I will praise Allah, and if I see evil I will ask forgiveness of Him for you."

This Hadith was narrated by Imam al-Qadi and considered reliable by noneless then great Hadith Imams such as Ibn-Hajar, al-Iraqi, al-Suyuti and even Wahhabi/Salafi ideologues such Ibn-Abd-al-Hadi and al-Albani!

More importantly, Allah (SWT) states in the Holy Qur'an:

وَقُلِ اعْمَلُواْ فَسَيَرَى اللّهُ عَمَلَكُمْ وَرَسُولُهُ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ

And say: Work! For Allah will witness your actions and His Prophet and the beleivers

(Surah Tawbah:105)

It is narrated that once wahhabi alim (read jahil) entered a Mosque and saw the above Ayah written on the wall, so he complained and said: "This is Shirk! You cannot say "Allah and His Prophet" together. Remove this Kufr statement from the Mosque!"

Then he was told that it was actually a Qur'anic Verse, so he shut up!

In summary: Indeed, as in the hadith mentioned, it is the honoraray duty of the Angels to carry the Slawat anad Salams of all Muslims to the Presence of the Prophet (SAW), who then pays attention to them and answers them.

This is the normal general rule.

However, if the Prophet (SAW) wishes to honor a certain gatheing of his sincere lovers, then he may personally attend that gathering spiritually. Indeed, Allah (SWT) has granted his Soul the power to do that. Allah can do anything He wishes. The Qur'an confirms that Jesus (AS) used to make the dead people Alive! Whats more unbelievable?

We do not say that the Prophet (SAW) attends every single gathering of Salawat. Of course nor. What we say is that he (SAW) may attend any gathering he wishes to bless.

Indeed, countless great Awliya and Men of God have felt his presence in their gatherings and many have even seen him (SAW) in the gatherings of Dhikr and Purity.

To call them all liars is itself a most horrible lie.

Sahib al-Faydah Shaykh Ibrahim Abd-Allah (RA) said:

"If someone denies the possibilty of seeing the Prophet (SAW) in wakefullness, then we know that he is not from those who deserve to see him (SAW)"

May Allah make us from the believers and not the deniers ويل للمكذبين

May Allah make us from those whose gatherings are attended by Rasul-Allah (SAW), and those who have vision of him (SAW), in Dunya and Akhirah. Amen.

LEAVING THE TARIQAH?

LEAVING THE TARIQAH?

Question:

As'salaamu 'alaykum ya Imam,

One thing I've heard persistently about the Tijani Tariqa is that if someone takes the Tariqa and then leaves it to join another, then all future spiritual development is cut off (I'm not sure of the correct terminology), how do Tijani's explain when this is not what happens. I've been informed by someone who I would consider reliable in such matters that Shaykh Abdur-Rahman as-Shaghouri , perhaps most famous as the Murshid of Shaykh Nuh Ha Mim Keller, was a murid in the Tijani Tariqa before leaving it for the Shadhilli after meeting Shaykh Ahmad al-Alawi, not only becoming a murshid in the tariqa but the successor of his own Shaykh and in essence the highest authority for the Shadhilli's of Syria?

Answer:

Wa Alaykum As-Salam Sidi,

Know that people take a Tariqah for Barakah and Intisab (to be attributed to it), OR for Tarbiyah and Suluk(spiritual journey to God).
Technically, the Tariqah Tijaniyyah is not given for Barakah only. It can only be given for Training. However, there are always people who may simply take it for Barakah. It is difficult for the Initiating Muqaddam to judge the seeker.

I have read the biography of the respected Shaykh al-Shaghouri (RA). It seems that he took the Tijani Tariqah in the beginning of his spiritual quest for Barakah only, as is the habit of many young seekers. The proof being that at the same early period of his life he took many other Turuq as well. It is obvious that he never really practiced the Tijani Way or perhaps even comprehend its realities.. He probably just wanted to get Ijazah in Salat al-Fatihor be connected in some way to Shaykhuna al-Tijani (RA).

The person he took the Tariqah was a Syrian merchant called Sidi Ata al-Ghabrah, who was not an Alim or a man with permission of Tarbiyah. In any case, Shaykh al-Shaghouri (RA) did not spend any time with him.

Now, such murids are not really condemned if they leave the Tariqah respectfully, because they never really practiced it in the first place. They only wanted some barakah. They were eternally not meant for Shaykh Ahmad Tijani (RA). Their "training" was meant for someone else. They will then naturally grow in another Tariqah.

As long as they don't disrespect the Tijani Way, we don't criticize them or disrespect them in any way.

Of course, by leaving the Tijani Way and choosing another Way, they will still be spiritually deprived of the unique Openings guaranteed only for Tijanis.

Even if such a person became a great Saintly QUTB in another Tariqah, he is nevertheless behind the Tijani murid. This is because Shaykh Ahmad Tijani (RA) clearly stated - as informed by the Prophet (SAW) - that:

لو أطلع أكابر الاقطاب علي ما أعده الله تعالي لاهل هذه الطريقة لبكوا و قالوا يا ربنا ما اعطيتنا شيئا

"If the greatest Qutbs had to know what Allah has prepared for the followers of this Tariqah, they would cry and say: O Allah you gave us nothing"!!!

(Narrated in al-Rimah by Amir al-Mu'minin al-Haj Umar al-Futi)

This is something that may be understood only by Dhawq in this Dunya and witnessed openly in the Akhirah.

As for the person who leaves the Tijani Tariqah out of disrespect for it, or its Wirds or it's Shaykh (RA), then Sidi Ahmad al-Tijani (RA) has warned that:

يحل به الهلاك

"He will face destruction"

And:

و لا يموت إلا كافرا

"He will die on Kufr"

May Allah protect us. Amen.

This is because this person has turned his back to Sayyidina Rasul-Allah (SAW) himself, as the Shaykh of this Tariqah is no-one but Rasul-Allah (SAW) himself, and we recite his Litany and give Bay'ah to him only.

Along with Shaykh Ahmad Tijani (RA), we are all murids of the Prophet (SAW) himself.

Indeed the Prophet (SAW) had told our Master the Seal and Provider of all Saints (RA):

أصحابك أصحابي و أنا شيخهم و مربيهم

"Your companions are MY COMPANIONS and I AM their Shaykh and Trainer"

Indeed, I have personally seen terrible things that happened to people who left this Muhmmadan Way out of disrespect, apathy or laziness. Some left Islam, some went on drugs, some got afflicted with Jinn, some became slaves of the Dunya, some lost their wealth and many such things. What awaits in the Hereafter is worse.

One may play with everything but Allah and His Prophet (SAW) and those who represent them with authority. The Shaykh al-Tijani (RA) will either make you or break you. There is no turning back from it.

The Prophet (SAW) even guaranteed Jannah to those who just love the Hidden Pole Shaykh Sidi Ahmad al-Tijani (RA), even without taking the Wird and even if they are sinners. Didn't he (SAW) say to him openly:

أنت من الأمنين ومن أحبك من الأمنين

أنت باب لنجاة كل عاص تعلق بك

You are from the Safe ones, and all those who love you are from the Safe Ones

You are the Door of Salvation for every sinner that attaches himself to you

(See the Kashf al-Hijab of Sidi Sukayrij)

Be sincere to him and you will gain the Best in Both Worlds. Wallahi.

May Allah keep us steadfast on this Ahmadi Muhammadi Ibrahimi Way and forgive all our shortcomings.. Amen.

Was-Salam
