SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT JAWHARAT AL-KAMAL

Question:

Is the new murid who doesn't know the Jawharat al-Kamal, allowed to repeatedly recite it for the sake of memorization, without Wudu?

Answer:

No. He may recite it up to 3 times only without Wudu, but not more than that. And only while memorizing it.

Question:

When a murid who doesn't know the Jawharat al-Kamal yet, attends the Wazifah and everyone starts reciting the Jawharah; should he recite his replacement (badal) of 20 Salat al-Fatih at that same time, or wait for them to finish the Jawharah first?

Answer:

Both are valid, but it's better to wait for them to finish, so that he may hear the Jawharah from them. That will assist him in it's memorization.

Question:

Is it true that the Jawharat al-Kamal can make up for our lack of presence (hudur) in prayers?

Answer:

Yes. One of the benefits of Jawharat al-Kamal mentioned by Sidna Shaykh (RA) is:

If you did not have the presence of heart in any act of worship (eg. Salah, Wird...etc), then you may recite 3 Jawharat al-Kamal after it with presence of heart, and it will make up for that loss in your worship.

Question:

Why do we recite 12 Jawharat al-Kamal in the Wazifah when both the Jawahir al-Ma'ani and Kitab al-Jami mention 11? And these are the motherbooks of the Tariqah?

Answer:

They are our motherbooks indeed but both were compiled before Sidna Shaykh (RA) settled in Fas (where he spent the last 15 years of his life).

It is in Fas that Sidna Shaykh (RA) authorized the recitation of 12 Jawharat al-Kamal in the Wazifah. And this is known to everyone from that time till now.

It is narrated that the reason for this was that once during the recitation of the Jawharah, Sidna Shaykh (RA) was deeply engrossed in witnessing Sidna Rasul-Allah , so he didn't end the Wazifah at the 11th Jawharah, and the murids ended up reciting an extra Jawharah.

Later on Sidna Shaykh (RA) approved of this and made it the standard practice, due to the auspiciousness of the number 12.

There is no doubt, he did this with Prophetic approval. Therefore, we recite 12 Jawharat al-Kamal in the Wazifah.

Question:

We are encouraged by Sidna Shaykh (RA) to teach the Salat al-Fatih to non-Tijanis also, for it's immense blessings. However, can we teach them the Jawharat al-Kamal as well?

Answer:

No. The Jawharat al-Kamal is only to be taught to murids of the Tijani Tariqah, and non-Tijanis do not have permission to recite it. Sidi Ahmad Sukayrij (RA) stated this clearly. This is due to its immense spiritual impact.

Permission for Jawharat al-Kamaal

Question:

I found that Jawharat al Kamaal originated from Prophet (SM) who gave it to Sidi Ahmad in a wakeful state. This has now several versions. As it originated from Tijani Sufi Order, they ask that only mureeds of that order may recite it, and if anyone else recites it without their permission, harm may be caused to them.

Secondly, I have never heard before that reciting salawat might cause harm to any human beings. So, what must be believed? Is it not confusing?

Was salam

Answer:

Shaykh Fakhruddin Owaisi al-Tijani replies:

Wa Alaykum as-Salam,

There is no harm in any form of Salawat.

However, some Khass (Special) forms of Salawat are very heavy on the soul, and therefore require the Idhn (permission) of a complete Spiritual Master to recite them.

If an uninitiated person recites them, he may not be able to handle their heaviness.

We have personally seen this.

Wad-khulu ‘l-Buyuta min Abwabiha…{enter the houses through their doors}

Our Nabi (SAW) had the Idhn to carry the Quran (alam nash-rah laka  sadrak), and we have it through him….other than that, human beings would have perished by the recitation of even one Ayah of the Sacred Kalam that can blow mountains asunder.

Was-Salam

Imam Fakhruddin Owaisi al-Tijani

Question:

Salam Alaykum Shaykh!

Why is that it's not permitted to recite Jawharah except with ablution and not even with tayyamum? Reciting Salatul-Fatih instead.

Answer:

That's what the Prophet ﷺ instructed, as it's a very deep and holy Salat.

We don't question his command.

Imām Fakhruddin Owaisi
