QUESTION:
Salam Alaykum sidi.
Was wondering what did Shaykh Ibrahim (RA) mean when he said in Ruh al-Adab:
للنفس عيب للفواد عيب
للروح عيب ليس فيه ريب
The Nafs has a deficiency, The Heart has a deficiency
And the Soul has a deficiency without doubt!
What are those deficiencies, especially the deficiency of the Ruh?
Was-Salam
ANSWER:
Wa Alaykum as-Salam beloved brother!
The deficiency of the Nafs (lower self) is its desire for this lower world and its possessions, luxuries and pleasures.
The deficiency of the Fuad/Qalb (heart) is envy, hate, arrogance and its desires for fame, glory...etc.
The deficiency of the Ruh (spirit) is its desire for knowing the unseen, karamahs, spiritual ranks, as well as states of spiritual imbalance such as Jazb...etc.
May Allah protect us from all, bi-Jahi Rasul-Allah (SAW).
